ABOUT PATTIE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Pattie Elementary is a very unique school in the county as it is housed in two buildings. The original building, Washington-Reid Elementary, was built in 1950. It was named for Marian Washington, an advocate for school age children, and Marjorie Reid, who donated the land. Until 1978, Washington Reid Elementary had kindergarten through fifth grade
The Pattie building opened in 1978 to replace the Washington-Reid Elementary building. Pattie Elementary was named in honor of John F. Pattie, Sr., a former school board member and community leader in Dumfries. One year after Pattie opened, the surrounding area had expanded so quickly, that Washington-Reid Elementary was reopened to accommodate the kindergarten and first grade students. Since 1979, students in second through fifth grades have continued to attend school in the main Pattie building.
Brittany, Forest Park, Grayson Village, Keswick Forest, Lake Crest, Montclair, and Stockbridge.
Pattie offers an in-house START and SIGNET gifted program.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES & SPORTS
After school activities include Chorus and a Running Club. Many other fun filled activities take place throughout the year: Jog-a-Thon, Fine Arts Festival, Field Day, Health Fair, and the Winter Dinner Theater.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENT & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Pattie has a very supportive Parent-Teacher Cooperative (P.T.C.O.) whose members contribute their time, energy and fund raising efforts to the school’s academic, fine arts, athletic and after school programs and activities. Our S.E.A.L. Program (Supporting Early Acquisition of Literacy),which is comprised of parent and community members, assists our kindergarten through second grade students daily with their reading needs through one-on-one time devoted to young readers.
WHAT MAKES OUR SCHOOL UNIQUE?
Parents and staff at Pattie believe that each student can achieve the PATTIE mission to Personally Achieve Teamwork Trust Integrity & Effort through their vision of the PURR-fect Panther: Polite, United, Respectful and Responsible.
